Jeffrey Sachs, award-winning development economist, Columbia University professor of health policy and management and author of The Price of Civilization: Reawakening American Virtue and Prosperity, will appear at the University of Baltimore on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 p.m. as the next guest of the 2011-12 Merrick School of Business Speaker Series season. The event will take place in the Lucy and Vernon Wright Theater in the UBalt Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Ave.
Sachs, director of Columbia's Earth Institute, a gathering place for scientists, researchers, policymakers and explorers interested in helping to establish a global path toward sustainability, has been at the forefront of international economic problem solving for more than three decades. He serves as special adviser to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals and as an economic adviser to governments and international organizations around the world.
In The Price of Civilization, Sachs offers a searing and incisive diagnosis of our country's economic ills but also an urgent call for Americans to restore the virtues of fairness, honesty and foresight as the foundations of national prosperity.
