Simone Bolton, an undergraduate major in Psychology from Ubstadt-Weiher, Germany, received the Psi Chi Kay Wilson Leadership Award for Outstanding Chapter Presidents from Psi Chi, the international honor society for psychology, at the American Psychology Association's August conference. Bolton, head of UBalt's chapter since spring 2010, received the award for her work in restarting the chapter and increasing its visibility across campus.
"When our chapter adviser, Professor John Gasparini, told me that I won this magnificent award, I was full of joy and pride that our small chapter received this national honor," Bolton said. "Receiving this award means a lot to me and to our fairly new chapter of the University of Baltimore."
Bolton praised her fellow chapter members for their hard work and dedication in raising the profile of Psi Chi and the psychology program at UBalt.
"Overall, this experience taught me that leadership is a process, not just a position and that it involves everyone working together as a team," she said.
In addition, the national Psi Chi organization awarded the UBalt chapter its national 2011 Alberta Johnson/Ruth Cousins Building Bonds Collaboration Award in recognition of a collaborative effort that made a significant impact at the local, state, regional, or national levels regarding scholarship, leadership, research, and/or community service.
