Karen Surabian, a part-time student in the University of Baltimore School of Law, won a $12,000 scholarship from LexisNexis in its 3L Tuition Sweepstakes. Surabian, a third-year student, was feted in a brief ceremony hosted by Lexis on Monday, Nov. 16 in the lobby of the law school’s John and Frances Angelos Law Center, 1415 Maryland Ave. During the event, LexisNexis representatives presented Surabian with her winnings, which she will use to continue her law school career. She expects to graduate from the School of Law in May 2011.
The 3L Tuition contest was open to all third-year students who are legal residents of the United States and attending a U.S. law schools. Qualifying students used their existing LexisNexis accounts to enter; they were automatically part of the contest once they ran 10 searches from their account. LexisNexis chose the winner in a random drawing.
Law students use LexisNexis to conduct legal research, find articles related to cases and improve their understanding of legal systems.
Surabian is the second of four monthly winners to receive an award covering $1,000 of monthly expenses for one year.
“We at LexisNexis recognize that graduating students are facing a very tough job market,” said Scott Collins, LexisNexis vice president of law schools. “In offering this sweepstakes, we hope to help alleviate some of the financial challenges these students are facing, and to help them as they launch their professional careers.”
