Spotlight UB celebrates Halloween and all things spooky, with its third presentation of "Poe Night," an evening of readings from some of the Edgar Allan Poe's best-known works. The event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Lucy and Vernon Wright Performing Arts Theater in the University of Baltimore Student Center, 21 W. Mt. Royal Avenue.
Renowned Baltimore actor, teacher, director and Poe impersonator Tony Tsendeas will perform Poe classics "The Raven," "The Telltale Heart" and "The Black Cat." Tsendeas has been performing as Poe for the Edgar Allen Poe Society and at Halloween performances at the Westminster Burial Ground (site of Poe's grave) for many years. Spotlight UB will ask the audience for donations for the Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum, located at 203 Amity St. in Baltimore.
Interspersed between recitations, ghost folklorist and Spotlight UB theater events coordinator Kimberley Lynne will open the mike to the audience for shared ghost stories told to the haunting strains of cellist Kate Porter. Lynne’s Maryland ghost folklore novel Dredging the Choptank was published in 2010.
Tickets are available online at www.etix.com (search under University of Baltimore) and are $10 general and $5 students and UB alumni, faculty and staff.
Reduced rate parking is available on event nights at UB's Maryland Avenue Garage, located on Maryland Avenue between Biddle and Chase streets, or at the Fitzgerald Garage on Oliver Street; a voucher will be provided at the box office, and the UB shuttle is available to transport patrons between the venue and the garage.
