UB Grants Honorary Degree to Dennis Archer, ABA President-elect

BALTIMORE-Dennis Archer, who served two terms as the mayor of Detroit and was recently nominated president-elect of the American Bar Association, received an honorary degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law during the law school's annual commencement ceremony, Monday, May 20.
About 240 graduates received degrees during the ceremony at The Lyric.
Archer, an African-American, is the first person of color nominated to the highest office of the association, the largest voluntary professional association in the world. He served two four-year terms as mayor of Detroit from 1994-2001 and during the last year was also president of the National League of Cities. Since leaving the mayor's office, Archer was elected chairman of Dickinson Wright PLLC, a Detroit-based law firm with offices in Michigan and Washington, D.C. He sits on several corporate boards.
In addition to those students earning juris doctor degrees, several students received diplomas with joint degrees. Ten students were awarded M.B.A./J.D. degrees; two students earned a J.D. with an M.S. in Conflict Negotiations/Conflict Management and one student will earn a joint law degree and master of science in criminal justice.
