A July 16 Marketplace Morning Report analysis of why money was wasted in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts included commentary by Charles Tiefer, professor in the University of Baltimore School of Law and an appointed member of the Commission on Wartime Contracting.
"We went into these wars with a terribly stripped down government workforce of the people who monitor government contracts," Tiefer said, leading to wasted money spent on projects that were never completed or are now unused because they were not needed.
