A drive-up service for paternity testing, featured in an article in The Baltimore Sun, raises concerns for Jane Murphy, professor in the University of Baltimore School of Law and an expert in family law.
The service, which appears to take a lighthearted approaching to paternity testing, is "not a joke" and often has extremely serious consequences, Murphy said.
She pointed out that children may have had a long-term relationship with someone who they believe is their father, but the testing proves that he is not.
"There's no other father waiting in the wings," Murphy said. "In many cases, there never will be."
