The sixth annual Veterans Legal Assistance Conference and Training will take place on Friday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the University of Baltimore School of Law's John and Frances Angelos Law Center Moot Court, 1401 N. Charles St.
This one-day training session, presented by the University of Baltimore School of Law and The Bob Parsons Veterans Center at the University of Baltimore, along with the Homeless Persons Representation Project, Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland and the Veterans' Affairs and Military Law Committee of the Maryland State Bar Association, is designed for lawyers, law students, veterans, policy makers and other service professionals. The conference provides a forum for discussion of critical legal issues facing veterans, changes in processing claims at Veterans Affairs nationally and locally, consumer issues affecting veterans, the nuts and bolts of practice before the Board of Veterans Appeals, and tips every lawyer should know in handling common veterans legal issues from USERRA to family law matters.
The conference also includes a training for lawyers interested in representing veterans pro bono in claims for service-connected disability benefits.
The conference is free and open to the public. The training is free for those who agree to a pro bono commitment. Advance registration is required. Out of state attorneys are welcome.
Those who plan to attend should contact Kiah Pierre at 443.703.3046 or kpierre@probonomd.org.
