The University of Baltimore will continue admitting freshman students as it strengthens the connection between the first-year program and UB's career-oriented focus in business, law, public affairs and the applied liberal arts. In addition, this fall the University launched an integrated "one-stop shop" of advising and student support services based on national best practices that will serve as a distinctive feature of the UB freshman student experience moving forward.
"UB can best fulfill its mission by continuing to admit freshman students and by developing a more targeted freshman program that is closely aligned with UB's career-oriented, professional offerings," UB President Kurt Schmoke wrote in an email to students, faculty and staff. Schmoke added that, "A freshman program tailored to students whose career goals match these [UB's] institutional strengths is consistent with UB's educational mission and with the University’s distinctive role in the University System of Maryland."
UB will continue the Finish4Free program launched last spring, which offers incoming first-time freshmen who are on track to graduate within four years free tuition in their final semester.
The University will also pilot a residential life program for entering freshmen in fall 2015 at The Varsity, a modern, student-oriented housing facility two blocks from the center of campus. The pilot program will provide 24/7 residential support, co-curricular programming, and enhanced service learning and cultural enrichment opportunities. Program details will be finalized in early November.
The University of Baltimore is a member of the University System of Maryland and comprises the College of Public Affairs, the Merrick School of Business, the UB School of Law and the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences.
