Sydney Comitz, a senior in the Merrick School of Business, an early-entry student in the University of Baltimore School of Law and president of the UB Student Government Association, has been nominated by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to serve as student representative to the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.
Comitz's nomination will next go to the Maryland Senate for a vote. If it is approved, she will serve a one-year term on the board beginning July 1.
"I am so humbled to have been nominated by Gov. Hogan as the 2015-16 Student Regent," Comitz said. "My first reaction is one of deep gratitude and excitement. I have been consistently supported by the students, faculty, staff and administration of the University of Baltimore for many years, which has, in turn, fueled my passion for student advocacy. I would like to especially thank USM Chancellor Brit Kirwan, UB President Kurt Schmoke, UB Faculty Senate President Dan Gerlowski, UB Foundation Chair Stu Silberg, the current Student Regent Raaheela Ahmed, fellow USM Student Council members and President Zachary McGee, and SGA team and advisors Bill Schnirel and Dawn Simounet for their mentorship and unwavering support of my goal of making the student voice heard in important governance issues both campus- and state-wide. It is my sincere hope to impact the way the student voice is communicated and received in the University System and throughout Maryland."
