Claudia Acevedo, a Guatemalan human rights activist, will speak on gender-based violence and sexual identity in Guatemala on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at noon at the University of Baltimore School of Law, 1429 Maryland Ave. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in Room 201.
Acevedo works to defend women’s rights in Guatemala by raising awareness of discrimination based on sexual orientation. Does she work for any particular organization? Over the last four years, more than 1,000 women and girls have been murdered in Guatemala. A large majority of these crimes have not been prosecuted.
This event is organized by the UB School of Law Immigrant Rights Project and co-sponsored by the UB Chapter of Amnesty International, the UB National Lawyers Guild, the International Law Society, the Women’s Bar Association and Students Supporting the Women’s Law Center.
More information about this event is available by contacting Helen Harnett, clinical fellow, at 410.837.5732.
