The University of Baltimore School of Law will examine the issue of “The Public’s Right To Know: Shields, Subpoenas and Suits” when it hosts the fourth annual Venable LLP Women in Advocacy Symposium on Thursday, March 30, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Venable Moot Court Room at the School of Law, 1429 Maryland Ave.
Marcia Coyle, Washington bureau chief and Supreme Court correspondent for The National Law Journal, and Claudia James, president of the government relations and public affairs firm Podesta Mattoon, will discuss current events such as the war on terror, the public's right to information and the perilous nature of modern journalism.
"Venable is proud to partner with University of Baltimore and play a critical role in presenting a forum for discussions on issues as important and timely as these,” said Jim Shea, managing partner for Venable LLP.
The symposium will also include discussion on how the law assists or fails to help those who seek to enforce the public's right to know and what is happening in Congress and in state legislatures to ensure that those who knock on government's doors get the information needed to preserve a free society.
"The Women in Advocacy Symposium was designed as a bipartisan event that shows what political advocacy in its core is about," explained Sharon Wilkes Kinberg, creator and founder of the Women in Advocacy Symposium. "The University of Baltimore School of Law continues to be an important supporter of programs that provide students, faculty and community the opportunity to actively participate in dialogues of current significant issues. We are all very grateful to Venable LLP for supporting this event, now in its forth year, in honor of Women’s History Month."
Wilkes Kinberg will moderate the program with a full reception to follow the symposium. Special parking and shuttle service to and from the University of Baltimore School of Law will be provided throughout the event. For more information, contact Chip Brown at 410.837.4177.
