The University of Baltimore's Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is joining other city sites to host a cohort of the Bet on Baltimore program, which supports high school students interested in entrepreneurship. In addition to helping these students with networking and business creation opportunities, UB's Merrick School of Business Dean Murray Dalziel will meet with the group on July 24.
On that same day, the students, wortking in small teams. will present their capstone projects, all of which are focused on the use of social innovation to solve a host of social concerns, e.g., creative problem-solving approaches toward mental health, nutrition, and the proper policing of local communities.
Bet on Baltimore is an engaging internship program co-created with Dent Education and supportive of public high school students. The inaugural class attends Green Street Academy, a school-to-career middle-high public charter school in Baltimore. The latest cohort is from Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School.
"We're putting these students in the driver's seat for solving problems around them," says Jackie Bello, co-founder and COO of Dent Education.
Over eight weeks at City Garage in Port Covington, a business incubator and makerspace created by Under Armour founder Kevin Plank, the Bet on Baltimore program introduces interns trained in computer-assisted design, to open up new vistas such as maker skills, the design thinking process, and more.
