The University of Baltimore's 2019 "Rise to the Challenge" Business Competition—in which UB undergraduate and graduate students, from all UB schools, present their ideas and concepts for new and existing businesses before a live audience of their peers and entrepreneurial experts—is accepting submissions to compete. The submission deadline is midnight on March 7.
The annual event, now in its seventh year, provides an opportunity for UB students to learn the basics (and more) about entrepreneurial pitching—that is, talking about your business ideas in front of experts who have influence, clout, and capital. Simply put, any successful small business starts with a great idea, a strong financial case, and an understanding that Plan B, Plan C, etc., can be just as important as Plan A.
Finalists compete for seed money and in-kind professional services to get their dream business off the ground. Judges representing the local business community will join UB alums and experts in selecting the winners.
Here are important dates for this year's "Rise to the Challenge":
- March 7: Submission Deadline (by midnight)
- March 12-13: 1st Round Judging
- March 14: Selected Finalists Announced
- May 1: Final Live Competition, 5:30-8 p.m.
"Rise to the Challenge" is sponsored by UB's Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and designed to generate awareness of new and emerging innovative business ventures nurtured by the UB community.
