Supreme Court Clerk on Litigating Cases Before the Nine Justices, Oct. 23

Major General William K. Suter, since 1991 the clerk of the United States Supreme Court and the lead manager of its crowded, history-making docket, will discuss litigating before the nine justices in a special event at the University of Baltimore School of Law on Tuesday, Oct. 23. This event, free and open to the public, will take place in the school's Moot Court Room, 1415 Maryland Ave., beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Suter, a retired major general in the U.S. Army, is the 19th clerk of the Supreme Court. Prior to joining the court, he served in the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star and the Distinguished Service Medal.
Suter was commander of the U.S. Army Legal Services Agency and chief judge of the U.S. Army Court of Military Review.
At UB, Suter will discuss and answer questions about his experience as the clerk of the most important court in the nation. In addition to managing the docket, the clerk is also responsible for the Supreme Court's calendar and overseeing the Supreme Court Bar. The clerk also attends all oral arguments at the court.
Suter is a graduate of Trinity University, and received his law degree from Tulane University. He was admitted to the bar in 1962.
