UB’s historical mission, to provide a quality education that prepares our graduates to succeed in their careers, will never change. Yet we must continually reassess how best to fulfill that mission while acknowledging that higher education does more than simply prepare students for jobs; we also have the responsibility and the opportunity to develop future generations of engaged, well-rounded citizens.

In keeping with our strategic goals of:
the purpose of UB Staff Recognition Awards is to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of outstanding and exceptional contributors to UB’s mission and vision.
Separate and distinct from other forms of recognition and awards, the UB Staff Recognition Program honors up to six annual exempt and non-exempt staff award recipients in each of the following categories:
This award focuses on staff members who excel in all aspects of their positions, who possess excellent work ethic and have extraordinary impact within the department as a role model, connecting with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. These individuals not only exceed performance expectations within the department, but also interact and provide outstanding and ongoing excellence in services to faculty, staff, students and/or other customers; colleagues who create positive impressions of their department by their spirit of service, interaction with others, and impact outside of the department.
This award focuses on staff members who, through the use of new processes, approaches, or technologies, demonstrate outstanding creativity in addressing challenges that are linked to the UB’s mission and reputation, and/or allow UB, as a whole, to operate more efficiently and effectively. These individuals not only exceed performance expectations within the department, but also enhance the quality of work-life in ways that make a significant difference for colleagues or customers through their development of creative solutions to problems that result in significantly more effective and efficient department or university operations.
This award focuses on staff members who demonstrate concern and commitment to fulfilling needs and ensuring satisfaction when they provide services to the public and larger community of Baltimore that reflects favorably on UB. These individuals facilitate and engage in mutually beneficial partnerships and community engagement that increases the understanding of, and present solutions to challenges faced by both the University and the community in which we live and thrive, resulting in making the lives of our students, faculty, staff and greater community better.
For award eligibility, UB staff must meet the following criteria:
A three-member committee consisting of one exempt staff member, one non-exempt staff member and one administrator will be appointed by the President of the University or his designee. Committee members will serve staggered terms of up to three years each.
The staff member's supervisor, fellow employees, clients of the University or members of the general public may nominate staff members for these awards. All nominations must be submitted through the staff member's immediate supervisor and endorsed by the appropriate department head. Nominations are then reviewed by the Staff Awards Committee and final recommendations made by that committee to the President.
The deadline for submission of nominations to the Committee is July 29, 2013.
A nomination packet must include the following, in this order:
Although extensive documentation is not a requirement, nominations must contain material sufficient to acquaint the committee with the nature and quality of the individual's achievements.
In each category, a $1000 cash prize will be awarded.
All nominations must be submitted through the staff member's immediate supervisor and endorsed by the appropriate department head. The original nomination and supporting documentation must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources by 5 p.m. on July 29, 2013.
