A pay group specifies the type and amount of leave to which an employee is entitled. A pay group also defines leave accrual rates. Pay groups are as follows:
NOTE: All leave accrual rates are based on full-time. Time is prorated for employees who work less than full time.
EXE - Regular Exempt Employees
NEX - Regular Non-Exempt Employees

Leave available: paid leave for annual, sick, personal, and holiday.
Accrual Rates
Annual leave*: earned at the bi-weekly rate of 6.76 hours, or 176 hours per year. At the beginning of the 21st year of service, accrual rate increases to 7.68 hours bi-weekly, or 200 hours per year.
Sick leave: earned at the bi-weekly rate of 4.61 hours, or 120 hours per year.
Personal days: 24 hours are earned at the beginning of each calendar year.
Holidays: 88 hours are earned annually, or 96 hours are earned in a general election year. An additional 24 hours are given as administrative time off that are specifically used at the close of the year during the holiday break.

Leave available: paid leave for annual, sick, personal, and holiday. Overtime with approval.
Accrual Rates
Annual leave*: employees begin accruing time immediately and can be used to the extent that it is accrued and available. Part-time employees working 50% or more will earn annual leave on a pro-rated basis. Leave will be accrued according to the following schedule:

Note: There is a limited number of grandfathered employees who moved from Exempt status to Non-Exempt status when the Non-Exempt Pay Plan was instituted in 1996. These employees retained their leave rights as exempt employees.

Leave available: paid sick leave; collegially supported sick leave with approval.
Accrual rates:
Sick leave: employees earn 100 hours per year, at a bi-weekly rate of 3.85 hours.
Note: Employees do not receive any other type of paid leave except access to collegially supported sick leave (arrangements must be made with HR to use this type of leave).
F12 (12 month Faculty) and LIB (Regular Librarians/Faculty)
Leave available: paid leave for annual, sick, personal, and holiday.

Accrual: Employees are entitled up to 64 hours of contingent paid leave and earn 88 holiday hours per contract period (July through June) if the contract is in effect at the time the holiday hours are earned.
C1N (Contingent I, Non-exempt) and C1E (Contingent I Exempt)
Leave available: paid sick leave
Accrual Rate
Sick Leave: Earned at the bi-weekly rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked. Accrual will only take place if the employee has worked 24 or more hours in the pay period.
NBC (Student Assistants and College Work Study)
Leave available: paid sick leave

Additional Pay Groups
The following pay groups do not receive paid leave:

* Due to circumstances associated with COIVD-19, the USM Board of Regents has permitted a Temporary Exception to Annual Leave Carryover Limit. Through 2022, employees will able to carryover a maximum of 480 accrued hours, rather than the 400 stated in the policy.
