The Career and Professional Development Center at the University of Baltimore strives to empower students and alumni to be intentional managers of their careers. Our ideal candidate for the Career Coach is a service oriented team player with the ability to coach and advise students and alumni following UB's Career Cycle methodology designed to meet students where they are and assist in getting them where they want to go.
You will support the Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) administratively though developing and designing career related resources, conducting campus outreach to increase awareness and utilization of CPDC services, programming support of CPDC events and signature programs, facilitating workshops and small groups and collecting and synthesizing outcomes data. You will also successfully oversee the CPDC’s professional development workshop series, the processing of classroom presentations and the Career Peer Education program.
Career Coaching: Serves as a career coach for students and alumni onsite and online utilizing the CPDC coaching methodology. Administers and interprets career assessments for individuals and small groups including the MBTI and Strong Interest Inventory. Advises students on their progression through the UB Career Cycle and serves as a content expert for career management, career advancement, research, and employment trends. Guides students in the development of resumes, professional letters, and other related documents. Provides leadership and/or support for CPDC programs and events.
Workshop and Small Group Facilitation: Performs classroom presentations on campus to students in the College of Public Affairs, Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences and Merrick School of Business. Designs and facilitates professional development and career planning workshops offered by the CPDC
virtually and in-person. Designs and implements small group seminars regarding career planning, job searching and professional development.
Resource Management and Development: Oversees CPDC career resources and online career management systems including FOCUS2, InterviewStream, CareerSpots. Co-develops and updates print and electronic resources for website, programming, resource center and individual coaching sessions. Utilizes distance learning technology (chat, Adobe, YouTube, Panopto, Go-to-Meeting, etc.) to provide accessible resources to all UB students.
Campus Outreach: Ensures the effectiveness of the CPDC’s integrated approach through planning strategic and targeted outreach to promote the CPDC, career development, CPDC services and programs. Serves as Business Partner to academic departments. Strategically outreaches to integrate career development into the classroom experience including implementing new programs/collaborations, designing curriculum, career assignment and rubrics and training faculty. Coordinates CPDC presence at Admissions functions and events including Open Houses and New Student Orientations.
Data Collection: Coordinates and conducts assessment and follow-up studies to determine program and service effectiveness. Assists with the collection of destination data of all graduates to determine employment outcomes.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Counseling, Communications, English, Journalism, Business or a related field required.
Experience: At least two years of experience in career services or advising in higher education.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Psychology/Counseling, Communications, Business or a related field preferred.
Experience: At least four years of career coaching experience, GCDF certification or Nationally Certified Counselor preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of career services development and planning; career center operations, advising students; event management; excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with students, administrators, faculty, staff and parents. Knowledge and understanding of student affairs and university operations, principles and functions. Skill in working with diverse student populations including undergraduate, graduate and law students. Skill in working in highly collaborative environments and demonstrated ability to work in a team giving and receiving feedback. Effective oral, written, electronic, editing and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Familiarity with designing learning outcomes and evaluations. Skill administering and interpreting career assessments. Knowledge of career management systems used to help students explore careers. Proficiency with office software career management systems and equipment. Ability to work a flexible schedule include some evening and weekend hours.
Preferred: Skill working with administrative and academic personnel including faculty. Skill with Career Management Systems (Symplicity). Skill in event planning and promotion. Skill designing curriculum including learning outcomes, grading rubrics and learning modules.
This position is responsible for assisting in supervising selected evening and weekend programs, including facility operations, informal activities, and assigned programs.
