Produce and disseminate high-quality research on community based indicators and work on projects related to data integration for social policy. The Research Associate will be engaged in a full range of research and research management tasks, with a special focus on managing and analyzing quantitative data. Other tasks include obtaining IRB approvals for projects involving human subjects; producing literature reviews; conducting qualitative field work; managing project schedules; contributing to writing reports, academic journals and other products; and assisting in communicating key research findings to the public.
Designing and executing research plans by performing a full range of research and research management tasks of multiple projects.
Report writing including literature reviews and document completion. Communicating key research findings to the public using print, online and other media outlets.
Ensuring projects comply with University Institutional Review Board approvals and adjusting research plans as necessary to protect human subjects and confidential data
Manage large quantitative datasets and conduct analysis using solid research and writing skills, and critical thinking.
Assisting supervisor on management of client relationships, particularly with respect to data sharing MOU’s with city/state agencies and other organizations
Supervision of research assistants and student assistants for timely completion of projects
Create an outreach agenda for BNIA that can provide technical assistance to community organizations and non-profits.
Working with team members to provide technical expertise and ensure timely execution of other projects not under the direct purview of the associate
Responsibilities consist of a full range of research tasks, in order to produce and disseminate high-quality research on community based indicators and work on projects related to data integration for social policy. The Research Associate engages in a full range of research and research management tasks, with a special focus on managing and analyzing quantitative data. Other tasks include programming to automate routine processes, documenting procedures and methods, obtaining IRB approvals for projects involving human subjects; producing literature reviews; managing project schedules; contributing to writing reports, academic journals and other products; and assisting in communicating key research findings to the public.
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in the field of Public Policy, Urban Planning, Economics, Sociology or other social science field, or in quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Computer Science or Statistics, or demonstrated knowledge of a discipline that is generally associated with community-based studies. Five years of experience conducting research and research management tasks. Two years of experience can be substituted by a Ph.D. in directly applicable study that resulted in significant research participation and management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Sociology, Anthropology, or in quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Computer Science or Statistics, or demonstrated knowledge of a discipline that is generally associate with community-based studies.
The successful candidate must demonstrate solid research skills, analytic thinking, and quantitative aptitude:
• Experience designing and executing research plans using strong quantitative methods by performing a full range of research and research management tasks of multiple projects.
• Report writing including literature reviews and document completion. Communicating key research findings to the public using print, online and other media outlets.
• Experience with quantitative analysis, statistical packages (SAS, SPSS, Stata, R), or additional computer programming languages (Javascript, Python) is required.
• Experience with open-source programming is a plus
• GIS skills are preferred
• Assisting supervisor on management of client relationships, particularly with respect to data sharing MOU’s with city/state agencies and other organizations
• Requires an organized, highly motivated, creative, and self-confident individual who can work effectively with diverse stakeholders on multiple projects at once.
• Candidate should also have a strong interest in Baltimore community development and one or more of the following topics: housing policy, energy policy, sustainable development and neighborhood revitalization
