The College comprises the Division of Applied Behavioral Sciences, the School of Communications Design, the Division of Legal, Ethical and Historical Studies, and the Division of Science, Information Arts and Technologies (see http://www.ubalt.edu/cas/); and offers baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degree programs.
YGCAS creates a knowledge-rich environment that fosters critical thinking, open-mindedness and creative problem solving. It prepares a diverse population of learners to live and function ethically, responsibly and effectively in an ever-changing world. The academic programs provide broad-based as well as specialized knowledge to both traditional and non-traditional students. Faculty members in the College often collaborate with colleagues across a vibrant array of programs, centers, and initiatives.
Building upon institutional strengths in teaching, public service, applied research, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences enrolls more than 1,100 undergraduate and 475 graduate students and has 63 full- and part-time faculty with subject area expertise from Baltimore-Washington area businesses, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and arts communities.
In a College with a history of multi-disciplinary liberal arts and sciences programs, this Dean position offers a unique opportunity for transformative leadership, working with faculty to strengthen current successful programs and to build distinctive, robust and contemporary programs to advance student learning appropriate to the 21st Century.
As the College’s chief academic officer, the Dean provides intellectual and administrative leadership, guiding the College in its commitment to innovative, relevant education for current and future generations of students. Specifically, the Dean’s responsibilities include effective leadership consulting with and empowering faculty to revise and develop curricula in specific majors; maintaining high standards of teaching, scholarship creative work, and service; supporting the creative and applied research work; administering the College's budget; fundraising; recruiting faculty; taking a leading role in other faculty personnel matters, including tenure, promotion, and renewal; and advocating for the College at the University level as part of the UB leadership team.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of collegial academic leadership, a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, creative work and service (meriting a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Professor). Preferred qualifications include a history of attracting research funds, experience in fundraising, and professional, administrative or other relevant experience.
