The Office of Facilities Management and Capital Planning identifies, develops and implements capital-planning initiatives in accordance with the strategies of the Campus Master Plan. The Office of Facilities Management and Capital Planning is directly responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of our campus, which comprises 1.1 million square feet of space across 13 buildings and 11 acres.
We are seeking an individual who will serve as a Maintenance Aide. In this capacity, under direct supervision, you will assist the Physical Plant trades in performing general maintenance and repair work. This position will also provide support for building repairs and maintenance, as well as perform general carpentry work and painting using standard procedures, tools, and equipment. This position is considered an essential position as defined by the University System of Maryland, designated as vital to the operation of the facility, and is required to report to work regardless of the existence of an emergency condition. This position is critical to the university because this position helps creates a safe and welcoming environment for staff, faculty, students and visitors. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Functions as an unskilled helper to multi-trades and mechanical trades personnel in performing maintenance and repair work
- Assists in performing general carpentry work, repairing items requiring woodworking, fitting and finishing
- Assists in preparing interior and exterior walls, ceilings, floors, and other building surfaces by washing, brushing, sanding, and scraping; assists in applying paint, varnishes, stains, waterproofing agents and other protective agents
- Assists in repairs to building interior or exterior surfaces for patching or caulking, window & door repairs, roof leaks, cracks in walkways, and road surfaces
- Operates and maintains tools and equipment; cleans work area upon completion of work. Performs snow and ice removal from assigned areas using hand and power snow removal equipment; spreads salt, sand, and de-icers to prevent slipping
Required Education and Experience
Education: High School diploma or GED
Experience: One year in a trade field. Valid State of Maryland driver’s license
Preferred Education
Education: Completion of an accredited trade or vocational school
