The Director provides leadership, vision, and management for the Bank of America Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching, and Technology (CELTT) to fulfill its strategic and operational objectives. Under the general direction of the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Planning and in close collaboration with the Chief Information Officer, this position oversees and promotes effective, innovative pedagogy in both learning and teaching to ensure student success. The Director actively engages faculty to broaden their pedagogical horizons by sharing best practices in teaching and learning; facilitating professional development; and supporting, coordinating, and implementing innovative approaches to development and delivery for face-to-face, hybrid, and online programs thereby enhancing and promoting the UB culture as it relates to educational excellence. The Director leads the development of the University’s online strategy, including campus standards, policies, and procedures related to online learning. Travel and evening and/or weekend hours may be required.
Required: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Instructional Systems Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Learning Technologies or related/appropriate field/discipline. Five years progressively responsible experience in a leadership position related to higher education instructional technology and a minimum of three years of full-time experience, in a direct instructional role, at the higher education level.
Preferred: Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Instructional Systems Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Learning Technologies or related/appropriate field/discipline. Experience in an urban, open-access institution.
Additional requirements: Knowledge of current best practices in instructional design, teaching with technology, innovative teaching approaches, and learning management systems (LMS), including: asynchronous and synchronous tools and services and their applications in educational settings; information and multimedia technology and services; various types of instructional courseware and instructional applications and services; presentation and interactive technologies. Ability to: design, promote and sustain activities that encourage faculty to collaborate closely with CELTT to form a close professional and collaborative connection across University; work effectively with faculty, instructional staff and IT staff; use technology to support instruction; address and communicate technical issues in non-technical terms; develop and make presentations to diverse audiences; develop and manage budgets; demonstrated ability to teach; establish effective working relationships at all levels. Excellent oral, electronic and written communication skills and proven ability to train people on the use of instructional technology and effective classroom pedagogies.
