University of Baltimore (UB) – The Klein Family School of Communications Design seeks a full-time, open rank, tenure-track professor specializing in strategic communication, public relations writing, and social media. Position begins August 15, 2019 (contingent on final budgetary approval).
Candidates for this position must have a terminal degree in media or communication studies or a related field. Some experience with social media theory and research methods required.
We are searching for a new faculty colleague to assist in continually evolving our programs in this rapidly changing field while assisting students in developing their individual capacities for creativity, problem solving, life-long learning, and flexibility in the face of change. The successful candidate will have a passion for student learning and for developing a 21st century curriculum. We seek a communications expert with practical expertise grounded in theory and background in several of the following:
• public relations implementation strategies;
• data analytics and visualization;
• social media rhetoric and content generation;
• writing for digital media;
• social media theory, design, and functionality.
Duties include:
• Teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses as required;
• Participation in professional growth activities and continuous awareness, development, and integration of trends and developments in the field;
• Conducting and publishing research or creative work product in areas of specialization;
• Serving collegially on committees at the division, college, and university levels;
• Working on curriculum and program development;
• Assuming other duties normally expected of full-time faculty members at a comprehensive university.
The UB School of Communications Design is a vibrant core to the university’s applied liberal arts program, as well as the home to several innovative majors including one in Digital Communication. This major has three concentrations: Digital Theory & Culture, Media Design & Production, and Public Relations. Our other divisional undergraduate programs are Integrated Arts and English. Our graduate programs are an MA and MFA in Integrated Design and an MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing Arts. The standard teaching load is six to seven courses per year.

Qualifications:
Required: Candidates with a terminal degree in media or communication studies or related discipline. (ABD considered if defending by June 2019.) Candidates must have higher education teaching experience, and the potential to work collaboratively as active members of a faculty that maintains a research/creative agenda, contributes to program and curriculum development, and participates in university service and other areas of faculty responsibility.
