The Project Manager serves an integral function for Facilities Management and Campus Safety by managing the design and construction of new and renovation projects on campus. The Project Manager will work to implement efficient building practices that span a project from design to completion by organizing and controlling project materials, schedules, and costs. This position will also act as a liaison between internal clients and external contractors from point of conception through project completion, while providing technical expertise in a professional field such as architecture, electrical or mechanical engineering, or construction management. This position also promotes the value of diversity, safety, and environmental consciousness in the workplace. Performs ongoing review of all architectural design and construction drawings, specifications, materials, and color schemes throughout the life of the project, ensuring proper adherence to program requirements, campus design standards, and budgets.
Prepares any necessary reports and recommendations concerning preliminary and final designs.
Determines the responsibilities and specifications for project(s) by identifying project phases and elements, studying client requirements, reviewing contractor bids, and preparing cost estimates.
Prepares outlines of design requirements for proposed projects such as layout of space, enhances sketches and user requirements.
Prepares architectural drawings and construction specifications for construction and renovation projects of limited scope and complexity.
Reviews shop drawings, plans, materials, specifications and provide visual inspection and quality control by monitoring construction progress to ensure adherence to contract documents and building codes.
Advises and/or assists architects in the designing and planning of projects, and confers with other disciplines to coordinate mechanical and electrical design with the architectural design.
Conducts scheduled meetings to review project status, develop punch lists, and commission the project.
Reviews and approve design professional and construction contractors applications for payment.
Special hours of work will be required, as needed.
Required Education: Baccalaureate degree in Architecture, Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), Construction Management or equivalent technical work experience
Required Experience: Three years of experience in construction, design, and/or a technical specialization
Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) or a related degree in Construction Management
Preferred Experience: Proficiency in the use of AutoCad. Certification/Licensure preferred. Microsoft Projects or equivalent preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the design and construction process. Skill in prioritizing ongoing and new projects, as well as facilitating the timely completion of construction phases. Computer skills in relevant design and office applications. Skill in coordinating design concepts with other engineering disciplines. Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and processes. Skill in liaising with external agencies, campuses, or other high level contacts. Ability to address multiple tasks and contingencies. Ability to manage projects with budgets up to one million dollars. Ability to make design modifications when reviewing proposals and plans within an area of technical expertise. Ability to evaluate alternative designs and associated costs. Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with a broad range of internal and external individuals or agency representatives.
