THIS IS A REGULAR NON-EXEMPT POSITION WITH A FULL BENEFITS PACKAGE, INCLUDING:

Under general supervision performs the duties of a Police Officer enforcing Federal, State and Local laws. Participates as instructed in specialized unit activities such as crime prevention, re-certification, instructing criminal investigations or special events. Police Officers for the University of Baltimore maintain full police powers to enforce Federal, State, and local laws. Law enforcement activities include: ensuring safety of UB staff, faculty and students by employing contemporary patrol techniques, responding to calls for service, issuing citations, servicing warrants and summons, preparing reports and other related enforcement duties. UB officers patrol a 40 square block area around university properties and assist Baltimore Police when necessary. The basic job function this position serves is to provide a safe and secure working and learning environment for the university community. This is accomplished through patrol activities, crime prevention techniques, and working in partnership with the students, faculty and staff. Patrols designated areas by vehicle and foot to identify and report safety hazards, detect violations of laws and ordinances, and identify wanted vehicles, persons, and unusual conditions. Maintains a visible presence to deter crime.
Responds to calls for emergency service, evaluates the situation and determines appropriate course of action. Performs crowd control; responds to emergency situations; administers emergency medical aid.
Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements; collects, preserves, and processes evidence.
Conducts surveillance and serves warrants and summonses. Performs searches and detains suspicious vehicles and persons. Arrests, searches, restrains, transports, guards, and processes violators.
Interacts with campus community and establishes rapport with public. Mediates disputes and provides advice on legal rights and processes. Performs crisis mediation with persons involved in disputes.
Operates a variety of communication equipment to obtain, report, and verify information. Prepares and completes a variety of detailed reports and forms to support investigations. Prepares cases; appears and testifies in court.
This position is classified as essential which may require weekend, evening hours and/or shift work or unexpected/last minute overtime as it relates to the operational needs of the department.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Current MPSTC certification as a sworn police officer. Please ensure that your resume references that current certification. Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license. An individual previously certified as a police officer in Maryland who has been separated in good standing from a law enforcement agency. Possess a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications: Associates or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college. Five years of experience as a certified police officer, and a demonstrated ability to function in a diverse community.
Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Employees in this job class are required to maintain certification as specified by the Maryland Police Training Commission.
