The Bob Parsons Veterans Center (BPVC), part of the Division of Student Success and Support Services, connects students to the many resources available for military and veteran students at the University of Baltimore and offers support and resources in a military-friendly atmosphere.
The coordinator assumes primary responsibility for programming offered by the BPVC. The coordinator will work directly with the veteran and military-affiliated students and with campus stakeholders to host and implement programming. This will include ensuring a comprehensive system for tracking participation, retention and student success indicators, and developing an assessment plan. The coordinator will maintain communication with faculty and provide resources to ensure veteran and military-affiliated programming meets students’ educational goals, includes thorough reflection, and considers appropriate risk management considerations.
The coordinator will research and develop high quality veteran resources and tools to help guide faculty around the development of the veteran student in their courses and classroom. Best practices will be implemented in order to ensure the highest quality programs for veteran and military-affiliated students. The coordinator will also assist the director in military and veteran appreciation and recognition events including, but not limited to, Veterans’ Day, Memorial Day, Sept 11th, and military appreciation month (May).

Key responsibilities include:
Oversight of Bob Parsons Veteran Center Programming: Coordinator will be responsible for career-based, academic-based, service-based and social/emotional-based programming for the BPVC. The coordinator will ensure that programming reflects best practices in risk management, data collection, impact, and reflection. Responsible for developing strategies and initiatives for increasing veteran and military-affiliated student participation. Conducts full planning and implementation cycle, including objectives that tie to the strategic plan, retention and institutional mission. Conduct thorough assessment of all programming, complete with areas of excellence and improvement. Market programs through social media, the website, and in printed publications. Engage with faculty and staff to offer programs in conjunction with other departments. Develop programs that increases the institution’s appreciation and understanding of the veteran and military-affiliated student. Coordinate logistics for events, including room reservations, catering, technology requests, work orders, and any other special requirements. Use industry best practices to periodically review programming and make improvements.
Supervision of daily operations of the Bob Parsons Veteran Center: The coordinator will recruit and train veteran and military-affiliated student employees, supervise employee work schedule, manage timesheets, and take into consideration employee course/class responsibilities. Regular counseling of student employees about work performance, highlighting areas of both excellence and improvement will be expected. Coordinator will manage social media accounts and technology resources.
Development of Data and Reporting on University Community Engagement Efforts: Coordinator will create a clearinghouse for veteran and military-affiliated initiatives including learning outcomes and the numbers of programs, and veteran and military-affiliated student participants. Assess and compile community members and organizations that express interest in creating strategic partnerships. Utilize data to build and deliver reports on veteran and military-affiliated student involvement. Work with university marketing and creative services to create reports and collaterals that highlight university veteran and military-affiliated student engagement efforts and with other institutional stakeholders to gather and disseminate relevant data.
University Outreach: Conduct outreach with university partners, community members, and stakeholders. Represent the University of Baltimore, and the BPVC and serve as an advocate for students on a variety of divisional and university committees.
Certifying Process: Work closely with the School Certifying Official (SCO) to assist students with their certification process. Serve as a point of contact for students who have questions or need assistance with the certifying process. Serve in a backup role to the SCO, including assisting with work load during peak times. Work with the SCO to stay current on all Veteran Affairs regulations concerning certifying of benefits.
Policy Development and Implementation: Assist in the development and implementation of veteran and military-affiliated student policies and procedures that promote learning, inclusion, and diversity. Perform timely reviews of policies to ensure compliance with all university, state and federal requirements. Review and revise policies and procedures as necessary. Provide recommendations to university officials regarding current student policy and processes. Address concerns and policy violations in compliance with established university procedures. Develop and refine risk management protocols for off-campus programs and initiatives.
Required Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology, sociology, public administration, business, management, or other related field
Experience: 3 years’ experience in higher education student life, veteran services or related field.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Education: Master’s Degree in Counseling/Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Services or a related field
Experience: Veteran or military affiliation (please explain affiliation if not a veteran). 3-5 years’ experience in veteran student services, programming, or related field. Experience with Veterans Administration (VA) and other military/veteran organizations (VFW, American Legion, Wounded Warrior). Skills in assessment of learning and programming activities. Skills in developing quality reports and coordinating messaging around university-wide efforts. Skills in facilitating student- and faculty-facing trainings, educational sessions and medium-to-large scale events. Proficiency in the use of social media and other marketing tools to create, manage, and update an electronic presence.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of veteran and military-affiliated student community; leading and developing trainings, mentoring student leaders, facilitating reflection, and ensuring and developing risk management protocols; excellent oral and written communication skills, strategic thinking and analytical skills, and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
This position is responsible for assisting in supervising select evening and weekend programs, including facility operations, informal activities, off campus events, and assigned programs. The ability to work a flexible daily routine to include evening and weekend hours is required.
