The Technology Support Specialist provides support to the University of Baltimore’s user community for computer hardware, software, other technology equipment, and business-related applications. The position also provides ongoing direct IT and A/V support including hardware installation, troubleshooting, repair, software installation, telecommunication support, and network configuration of systems. The Technology Support Specialist maintains existing desktop systems and hardware in UBalt student labs and campus classrooms, assists with UBalt asset and property management in conjunction with the University’s Property Management Specialist, and performs maintenance and updates technology and media equipment used for instruction at the University. The Technology Support Specialist works with PC network software to configure, test, diagnose and correct network anomalies. This position trains staff on various computer platforms and software, reviews the work of student workers, and performs technical work with minimum supervision.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
Computing and Network
• Installs and configures all computer hardware, including lab & classroom computers, PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets, library system terminals, printers and scanners.
• Coordinates remote equipment pickup and support for work from home community.
• Configures systems for UBalt network access.
• Participates in the installation and maintenance of desktop applications, software and hardware used by staff, faculty and students.
• Reconfigures technology devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, laptops, terminals, personal computers, printers and scanners) to meet the needs of users.
• Provides routine maintenance for computing equipment.
• Diagnose and resolves computer and network malfunctions, advising/coordinating repairs.
• Builds and maintains software images for desktops and laptop systems.
• Handles issues related to switch configuration, port activation and VLAN
Call Center
• Deploy software packages, updates computers using remote administration tools:
? Oversight of bit blocker management for security and encryption.
? Development of batch scripts for efficient process of commands.
? Edit Ini files to initialize or set parameters in Microsoft Windows.
? Use of Windows server management to view and manage server roles and configurations.
? Configure and automate admin tasks using JAMF Admin.
? Manage custom Intune roles and add assignments using Intune Admin.
• Administer mobile deployment technology (MDT) – server management, image capturing, deployment, driver management, deployment share management.
• Provide backup Call Center staff support during peak periods with rotational tier 1 support, and handling tier 2 and 3 support when not assisting Call Center.
• Edits OTS web pages for department content as needed.
Training
• Trains and assists faculty, staff and students in the proper use of PCs, MS Office and other technology devices.
• Provides training and assistance to faculty, students and support staff on standardized and specialized media production techniques and equipment operation.
Media
• Tests, troubleshoots, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on audiovisual equipment in classrooms, portable equipment and labs.
• Supports faculty using lecture capture software for classroom recordings and events on campus. Assists with the conversion of audio and visual recordings of class sessions to proper formats for faculty use.
• Provide and assist faculty, staff and students with checkout desk duties as required.
• Backup staff for media events and the Baltimore City Police Training Academy, and also during peak periods throughout the academic semester in campus classrooms and remote services/tools (Zoom, Teams) for online and hybrid classrooms.
• Provide and assist faculty, staff and students with equipment checkout duties as required
Inventory
• Assists with the University of Baltimore’s asset and property management in conjunction with the University’s Property Management Specialist.
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred Education: Certification in various related IT systems.
Required Experience: Two years of IT support experience. Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
Preferred Experience: Two years of progressively responsible IT support experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of computer hardware running Windows and Mac operating systems. Understanding of current technology (Windows, Macs and mobile devices). Knowledge of network switches, wired and wireless networks. Troubleshooting skills to diagnose problems and use most appropriate means to solve them. Communication skills such as an ability to discuss problems and solutions clearly. Effective reading, writing, and technical reporting skills. Training skills such as ability to teach new software to non-technical personnel. Ability to stay current with the latest hardware and software developments. Ability to lift 40lbs. Able to work as a member of a team.
Special hours of work:
Work may include occasional evening and weekend scheduling. Occasional working evenings may be required to support classroom technology. Ability to lift 40lbs and deliver desktop computers and printer orders with appropriate carts. OTS technology outage window is Friday evenings and occasional working during this period may be required.
