Through purposeful programs and services, the Division of Student Success and Support Services (SSSS) supports all UBalt students in their journey to successfully navigate their college experience, develop as citizens and critical thinkers, and prepare for careers in an evolving marketplace.
Reporting to the Director, Student Success and Retention, the Transfer Student Success and Retention Coordinator develops programming to increase success and retention of transfer students specifically, and undergraduate students in general. The position develops and leverages partnerships with other UBalt offices to co-host events, support success initiatives, and provide transfer students the tools that will enable their success during the early stages of their enrollment.
This position will facilitate the transition from admitted student to enrolled student and work closely with various offices who assist in acclimating students at UBalt. This position will support efforts included in both the UBalt Strategic Plan and the Strategic Retention and Student Success Plan. This individual will support the implementation of student success and retention best practices.
The incumbent will be responsible for developing tools and metrics to gauge program participation, assess efficacy, and guide further program development in in a data-driven manner. In addition, the individual will regularly meet with students and utilize feedback gained to provide qualitative analysis of enrollment and academic challenges transfer students are experiencing and collaborate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:
Support implementation of student success initiatives early in the transfer students’ academic career: Develop and enhance partnerships with various offices across the University landscape to support and deliver co-hosted retention events and programs. Utilize partnerships to provide support for student success initiatives and provide new transfer students with the tools to be successful in their first semester(s) at the University. Develop specific partnerships with each School/College, The Offices of Admission and Financial Aid, The RLB Library and Academic Support Services, and other offices within the SSSS division.
Program delivery: Support the implementation of student success and retention programming to increase transfer student retention. Support the University’s Strategic Retention and Student Success Plan. Manage tracking and assessment of efforts.
Triage student support: Meet with transfer students and various student sub-populations to provide guidance and direction for students seeking academic and co-curricular assistance. Work to identify pain-points that contribute to academic and enrollment challenges for students in general and sub-populations in particular. Collect and report quantitative and qualitative data regarding factors of the student experience that impact retention and attrition.
Division and University Representation: Serve on division and university-wide committees, task forces, and workgroups as appropriate and as requested by supervisor. Attend SSSS divisional meetings and events as requested. Perform other duties related to the overall scope of the role, as assigned.
This position is responsible for assisting in supervising select evening and weekend programs, including informal activities and assigned programs.
Required Education and Experience
Education: Baccalaureate degree
Experience: Two years working with college-aged students or in higher education.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Master’s degree
Experience: Three years of progressive higher education experience. Academic Advising and/or Admission experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The ability to support and deliver programming on a university campus. The ability to work in a team environment and to contribute to discussions and strategies with team members of various levels. The position requires strong critical thinking and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, student services, and academic service units. The individual must be able to exercise excellent professional judgement and discretion.
The ability to review data and evaluate data to determine the efficiency and success of programming is key. Ability to work with supervisor to determine trends, bottlenecks to re-enrollment, and communicate these issues in a proactive and professional manner.
Knowledge of current social media trends, particularly for students in a higher education environment (both traditional and adult learners.) The ability to be creative in the development of social media and other content appealing to various populations.
