This is a regular fully-funded position with benefits that is tied to a project scheduled to run through 12/31/2023.
Reporting to the Assistant Provost for Sponsored Research, the eRA Specialist is responsible for testing and quality assurance activities, developing documentation for software enhancements, and implementation of new modules, software upgrades, and UBalt-specific functionality of the enterprise research administration system – Kuali Research, including Proposal Development, Institutional Proposal, Negotiations, Award, Conflict of Interest, and Protocols modules. This position will be instrumental in the coordination and integration of Kuali with the new enterprise financial system – Workday, as implemented by the Maryland Connect consortium between UBalt, Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Frostburg State University and Salisbury University. In addition, this position provides functional and technical support, working with the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR), Office of the Comptroller, the Office of Technology Services (OTS), and potential outside vendors or consultants on issues related to internal applications and interfaces with external campus systems.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform testing on the electronic research administration enterprise system – Kuali Research, including new features and new releases. Evaluate system functionality for meeting UBalt considerations and configurations. Plan and assist with software updates and revisions including the review, evaluation, and documentation of programs, practices, and systems to identify and recommend the means of interfacing with related business systems.
2. Responsible for the development of business design documentation for Kuali Research in current state, software enhancements, modifications, and interfaces including the intended functionality of software and enhancement features. This position would analyze the design of same, determine the business needs are met, and how these will be integrated with UBalt research administration business processes and enterprise financial software – Workday.
3. Assist with the framework and development of training materials and tools that match new business processes. Participate in business process analysis and strategy, working with stakeholders to identify opportunities for reengineering processes to improve workflows and integration of Kuali to Workday. Develop and conduct training for Kuali user groups based on the priority business processes identified.
4. Analyze software bugs and log issues with Kuali Research Zendesk. Provide quality assurance testing prior to version release and version deployment. Ensure that issues are identified, tracked, reported on and resolved in a timely manner. Create specification and requirement documentations for enhancement requests based on program specifications through discussion with end users and subject matter experts.
5. Maintenance of tables and trees in Kuali Research. Plan, test and deploy modifications necessary to successfully integrate with Workday cost center structure, as determined by Maryland Connect implementation team.
Education: Baccalaureate degree in Information Technology, Accounting, Finance, Business, Research Administration or related fields/disciplines is required.
Experience: Three years of progressively responsible experience working with enterprise software related environments is required. Experience in an academic research administration setting and knowledge of electronic research administration systems (Kuali, PeopleSoft, Workday) is preferred.

Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make timely and well-informed decisions. Highly organized. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
