The Community Engagement and Communications Specialist will be responsible for engaging with communities and other multi-sector stakeholders to better understand the needs of communities as well as disseminate research findings to a broad audience. This will involve significant out-of-office time to meet communities “where they are” and bring back findings to inform research. The Community Engagement and Communications Specialist will be engaged in a full range of outreach and communications management tasks, with a special focus on disseminating information on multiple communications channels. Other tasks include producing literature reviews; conducting qualitative field work; managing project schedules; contributing to writing blogs, academic journals and other products; and assisting in communicating key research findings to the public.
This position resides in the Baltimore Neighborhoods Indicators Alliance (BNIA) - Jacob France Institute of the Merrick School of Business.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop an outreach strategy for disseminating research findings to a broad network of stakeholders. Involves significant field work and relationship-building.
2. Develop metrics to assess effectiveness of the outreach strategy to raise awareness of BNIA resources in the community and increase opportunities for future funding.
3. Report writing including literature reviews and document completion. Communicating key research findings to the public using print, online and other media outlets.
4. Provide communications outreach, writing skills, and critical thinking.
5. Assisting supervisor on management of client relationships, particularly with respect to communications with city/state agencies, legislatures and other organizations.
6. Develop a communications and outreach plan and implement social media strategy.
7. Working with team members to provide technical expertise and ensure timely execution of other projects not under the direct purview of the associate.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in the field of Public Policy, Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Public Health, Sociology, Political Science or Communications, or demonstrated knowledge of a discipline that is generally associated with community-based studies. Three years of conducting outreach, engagement and communication tasks ideally in the Baltimore area.
