The Director plans and manages academic resources and directs the Law School’s registrar operations, data research and reporting, and assessment activities. The individual in this position helps develop, communicate, implement, and enforce academic policy and procedures based upon requirements and parameters set by the Law School faculty, administrative staff, the university, USM, ABA and AALS regulations and standards, and FERPA requirements.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
Scheduling Operations: Build and maintain the School of Law academic calendar. Project course offerings for two academic years and design and develop the term schedule of classes based on data driven analysis of enrollment and curricular needs. Create and define law final exam schedule and administration processes in coordination with Assistant Dean of Students. Coordinate classroom assignments with the Office of Records and Registration and act as liaison with Conference Services for room needs, conflicts and special events.
Enrollment Operations: Oversee registration of JD, LLM, certificate and visiting students, to include: block enrollment of first year JD students, advance and general registration [term activation, troubleshooting enrollment issues, and permissions]. Manage course enrollment capacities, reserve capacities, and waitlists, including compliance with division restrictions during advance registration. Assist with advising and retention initiatives, including academic audits.
Academic Records Management: Oversee the maintenance and modifications of program/plan changes. Implementation and maintenance of concentration declaration and degree audit. Monitor compliance of law school grading deadlines and policies for faculty and students. Oversee identification, notification, and processing of probation and dismissal students in conjunction with the Academic Standards Committee appeals process and the Director of Academic Support. Coordinate with Law School Admissions and the Office of Financial Aid on the identification and notification of student scholarship status, honor society eligibility, and SAP appeal exceptions. Annually compute continuing student class rank in consultation with Office of Records and Registration.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect and configure data for submission to ABA/AALS accreditation, US News, USM faculty workload, USM non-instructional productivity reporting via Digital Measures, and internal data requests. Develop enrollment projection and forecast for all School of Law Programs.
Curriculum Management: Liaison with Law School Curriculum Committee to coordinate and review new curriculum course proposals for submission to the Provost. Maintain PeopleSoft and web law course descriptions in accordance with ABA regulations. Maintain and update Policies and Procedures manual(s) for all school of law academic programs. Maintain and update curriculum and program requirements on web and degree audit. Identify, explain, communicate and guide academic and university policy to faculty, staff and students.
Assessment: The individual in this position oversees, implements, and evaluates the School of Law assessment plans. This includes oversight and data reporting key performance indicators designated on the School of Law strategic plans and performance level tracking in Task Stream for student learning outcomes. Serves as ex officio on the faculty Assessment committee.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Education: Master’s degree in related field.
Required Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible experience working in academic affairs and/or enrollment management, as well as complex data analysis and reporting. Direct experience in administration of academic policies and procedures and knowledge of FERPA regulations.
Preferred Experience: Direct experience and familiarity with ABA and AALS standards and regulations, and familiarity with basic higher education law and policy.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in computer resources and especially web-based interactive delivery of services and information, including academic records, class scheduling, online catalog, and curriculum management. PeopleSoft Student Administration experience is preferred. Excellent writing, editing and communication skills required.
Evening hours to be expected during final exams administration and occasional law school events.
