The Associate Director of Stewardship works to foster lasting relationships with the university’s benefactors, playing a key role in the overall goal of strengthening fundraising efforts through donor retention. As a member of The University of Baltimore’s Office of Advancement and External Relations (OAER), the Associate Director reports directly to the Director of Stewardship and Special Projects and supervises the Donor Services Coordinator. This position nurtures a culture of gratitude, ensuring donors are appropriately and consistently acknowledged and recognized for contributions to the University and informed of the impact of their philanthropy.
This position handles multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously, and requires a strong work ethic, outstanding organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and significant personal initiative. The ideal candidate for the Associate Director role will be a strong communicator, a collaborative colleague, and an effective project manager who can align individual projects to the strategic vision of the department, and the mission and vision of the University. Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Produces special acknowledgment communications from the President, VP of OAER, University of Baltimore Foundation Board Chair, and other campus leadership as appropriate.
• Oversees the routine gift acknowledgment process.
• Manages honorarium and memorial notifications.
• Supervises the Donor Services Coordinator.
• Supervises the Scholarship Student Profile Process.
• Assists the Director as needed to provide the Donor Services Coordinator with the timelines and materials needed to produce scholarship and award recipient profiles.
• Manages the production of routine secondary stewardship collateral (student quotes, profiles, etc.).
• Reviews, edits, and proofreads copy for stewardship and other materials as needed.
• Produces fund usage reports for endowed and restricted funds.
• Provides support for special events and projects.
• Executes stewardship plans for special giving days and initiatives.
Required Education:
Baccalaureate degree
Required Experience:
• 3 years of professional work experience in fundraising, development, alumni relations, donor relations, nonprofit management, or similar professional work experience.
• Previous experience in a role that interacts with donors, alumni, and/or volunteers.
• Proven experience with project management.
Preferred Experience:
• Raiser’s Edge experience.
• 2 or more years of professional work experience supervising a direct report, intern, or student worker.
• Advanced Excel proficiency with experience managing, segmenting, and filtering large constituent data files.
• Event management experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to work with a diverse range of constituents and community partners, including donors, board members, and volunteers as well as alumni, parents, friends, university leadership, faculty, administrators, and internal colleagues.
• Ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, and effectively with varied internal and external constituencies.
• Must display a high level of maturity and personal integrity and ability to understand, develop, and sustain resilient and dynamic relationships with donors and colleagues.
• Exceptional work ethic and track record of personal initiative.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated capacity to be well organized and highly detail oriented.
• Must possess a collaborative mindset.
• Adept at problem-solving and using judgment in situations requiring independent initiative and tact.
• Proven ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion, and to balance multiple concurrent tasks and priorities.
• Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University as well as the technology tools available to the OAER.
• Possess the skillset to successfully manage a direct report.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Blackbaud CRM or similar donor database proficiency is required.
