The Office of Technology Services (OTS) is looking for a Computer Technician to provide customer support and technical analysis. This position will provide IT users with PeopleSoft, desktop and media equipment and support, determine user needs, and incorporate them in the design and overall plan for technologies support. The range of accountabilities covers problems escalated from Tier 2 support tickets, set-up, images, and desktop trouble-shooting services. The computer technician will also respond to and resolve complex desktop conflicts.
Requirements:
Education - A.A. degree in Computer Science or related area is required. A B.A. degree in Computer Science or related area is preferred.
Job experience – Requires at least two years of current work experience with desktop hardware and software support in a professional networked environment. Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Effective communication, reading, writing, and technical reporting skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients.
- Ability to perform diagnostics for desktops and peripherals systematically.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Able to work as a team member.
- Knowledgeable about current technology (Windows, Mac and mobile devices).
- Willing to work within a flexible schedule in order to cover hours of operation.
- Ability to lift and deliver computer and printer orders with appropriate carts in a four block campus range.
Main Functions of the Position:
- Provide technical assistance, advice, guidance, and informal training to customers using desktop and media hardware, and software programs.
- Identify, document and report all problems submitted by users to the department for resolution.
- Troubleshoot and restore routine technical service and equipment problems by analyzing, identifying and diagnosing faults by using established processes and procedures.
