Reporting to the Director of Database Management, the Data Administrator supports the work of the Institutional Advancement team by interpreting and converting data into metrics and decision support information. Serves as subject matter expert in data manipulation and data analysis and reporting. Provide high level of support to the IA team in the integration of data analysis into day-to-day work. Responsible for building-out, maintaining and improving a comprehensive repository of reports and analytics in order to serve the needs of IA. Responsible for understanding trends informing operations and strategy as it relates to using data to increase the effectiveness of fundraising, prospect management, alumni relations and annual giving.
Serves as primary report writer of routine reports and the support for ad hoc reports and research projects in the IA. This entails expertise in complex database functions and the ability to structure reports to be both end- user intuitive and operationally efficient. Maintains training and documentation manuals for routine reports and analyses. Conducts qualitative research of external and internal factors to contextualize and inform policy and practice set by IA leadership.
Design dashboards, develop complex data models and transform these models into intuitive dashboards for the data novice consumption. Keep abreast of innovative functionality of existing tools and new data visualization and presentation tools to ensure efficient and effective messaging and distribution of IA data and metrics.
Triages data requests from IA staff. Promotes appropriate and timely communication and collaboration to ensure constituents are informed of progress and completion of their data requests. Manages the security of the routinely published reports and analyses within suitable file sharing system.
Ensure data integrity through the production and explanation of periodic quality assurance reports, updating constituent records, perform bulk updates, maintain the structure of attributes, code tables and business rules. Perform global changes, upgrades and imports. Collaborate with IA operations (fundraising, prospect management, alumni relations and annual giving) in order to stay informed of changes in business practice that may change data management and reporting. Coordinate wide range of data projects.
Required Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Research, Information Technology, or related field/discipline. Three years of progressive and related experience in developing and creating high level reports, queries, and dashboard. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the principles of development/fundraising.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management or Research, Information Technology, or related field/discipline. Five years of experience developing and creating high level reports and queries and a comprehensive understanding of relational databases and software packages used for building statistical data models and for data visualizations, preferably in a higher education setting. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the principles of development/fundraising.
Additional Requirements: Demonstrated experience and skills in business analysis and project team facilitation in order to extract, organize and disseminate information for data segmentation, statistics and decision making. Strong skills and knowledge working with and creating reports, queries and spreadsheets, working with data management and visualization software – e.g., Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and Power Bi. Direct knowledge and proven experience with manipulating data from relational databases (such as Raiser’s Edge, Ellucian’s Advance). Extensive database experience in a large-scale database environment maintaining data quality. Exceptional analytical skills to synthesize a high volume of information from a variety of sources and perform complex analysis to produce reports that are usable and actionable to a variety of fundraising professionals. Expert written and communication skills to compose and document complex technical processes as well as issues and their resolutions. Strong oral communication skills, including skills to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituents in a professional manner. Proven, analytical, problem solving skills to independently research, develop and take ownership of and confidently recommend solutions to complex problems and issues. Project management experience to thrive in an environment of changing priorities and conflicting demands. Direct knowledge and proven experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT, Raiser’s Edge or similar database such as Advance. Working knowledge of mainstream software packages used for building statistical data models like Microsoft Power Bi, Structured Query Language (SQL), R, SPSS, Tableau, etc. is a plus.
