The Office of Technology Services at the University of Baltimore invites applications for the position of IT Support Assistant. The position of IT Support Assistant provides ongoing, direct IT and A/V support including hardware installation, troubleshooting, repair, software installation, telecommunication support, etc. Maintains existing desktop systems and hardware in UB student lab. Assists with the University of Baltimore’s asset and property management in conjunction with the University’s Property Management Specialist. Participates in AV training and support. Performs maintenance and updates technology and media equipment used for instruction at the University. Duties include:
• Installs, and configures all computer hardware, including classroom computers, PCs, Macs, laptops, tablets, library system terminals, printers and scanners. Configures systems for UB network access.
• Participates in the installation and maintenance of desktop applications, software and hardware used by staff, faculty and students. Reconfigures technology devices (e.g. smartphones, tablets, laptops, terminals, personal computers, printers and scanners) to meet the needs of users.
• Provides routine maintenance for computing equipment. Diagnoses and resolves computer and network malfunctions, advising/coordinating repairs.
• Builds and maintains software images for supports desktops and laptop systems.
• Trains and assists faculty, staff and students in the proper use of PCs, audiovisual and other technology devices.
• Provides training and assistance to faculty, students and support staff on standardized and specialized media production techniques and equipment operation. Supports faculty using lecture capture software for classroom recordings and events on campus. Assists with the conversion of audio and visual recordings of class sessions to proper formats for faculty use.
• Tests, troubleshoots, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on audiovisual equipment in classrooms, portable equipment and labs.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED. One year of IT support experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Certification in various related IT systems. Two years of progressively responsible IT support experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of computer hardware running Windows and Mac operating systems. Understanding of current technology (Windows, Macs and mobile devices). Knowledge of network switches, wired and wireless networks. Troubleshooting skills to diagnose problems and use most appropriate means to solve them. Communication skills such as an ability to discuss problems and solutions clearly. Effective reading, writing, and technical reporting skills. Training skills such as ability to teach new software to non-technical personnel. Ability to stay current with the latest hardware and software developments. Ability to lift 40lbs. Able to work as a member of a team. Work may include occasional evening and weekend scheduling.
This position maintains equipment that allows UB employees to complete their work tasks and ensures that classrooms, library and lab systems are up-to-date with the best technology tools to support the learning experience.
