The Henry and Ruth Blaustein Rosenberg Center for Student Involvement fosters life-long learning and personal development of students by enriching co-curricular education and creating purposeful connections built and promoted through their experiences in student programming and professional experiences.

The Coordinator of Student Activities (programming) assumes primary responsibility for directing student transition programs, leads the development of civic engagement events and programs, and serves in a support role for commencement programs. This position develops a holistic approach to help students successfully navigate to degree completion through interactive, robust, and learning-focused programs. The Coordinator will develop campus partnerships and academic connections, and will advocate for student needs through service on a variety of campus committees and initiatives. Assists with programs facilitated by the greater Center for Student Involvement team.
Facilitation of Orientation and Transition Programs
Direct the logistics and program development for new student orientation experiences, including facility reservation and setup, negotiation of contracts, cross-campus partnerships, and organization of interactive and educational sessions that promote student retention and success. Coordinate communication with new students and families. Manage recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of orientation leaders and other student staff. Develop holistic parent programming. Develop an exciting and engaging welcome week program to provide additional orientation and engage the entire student body. Implement assessment tools and create reports as requested. Work closely with other campus departments and divisions enhance the overall effectiveness of the programs. Engage in a “best practices” approach utilizing research, benchmarking, and professional connections to design innovative initiatives for new student orientation, transition, and retention.
Leadership and Support of Civic Engagement Programs
Lead the planning and staffing of major community engagement initiatives. Provide supervision for the UB Campus Pantry, including training student staff and volunteers. Maintain partnerships with non-profits and other community agencies. Write and submit grants and other funding requests to support goals, programs, and partnerships.
Support of Commencement Programs
Coordinate assigned logistical aspects for commencement ceremonies, such as graduation fair, communication with students and stakeholders, ticket distribution, organizing of graduates, and volunteer management. Carry out operational decisions and practice appropriate risk management techniques.
Policy Development and Implementation
Aid in the development and implementation policies and procedures that promote experiential learning, inclusion, and diversity. Perform timely reviews of policies to ensure compliance with all university, state and federal requirements. Provide recommendations to university officials regarding policy and processes. Address concerns and policy violations in compliance with established university procedures.
University Outreach
Increase students’ understanding of their role within their communities by providing opportunities that connect classroom knowledge with real-world experiences. Represent the University of Baltimore, and the Center for Student Involvement, and serve as an advocate for students on a variety of divisional and university committees.
Special Work Hours
This position is responsible for assisting in supervising select evening and weekend programs, including facility operations, informal activities, off campus events, and assigned programs. Must have the ability to work a flexible daily routine to include evening and weekend hours.
Required Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology, sociology, public administration, business, management, or other related field.
Experience: 3 years’ experience in student transitions, civic engagement, commencement, student life, or related field. Note: master’s degree may substitute for up to two-year’s experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Master’s Degree in Counseling/Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Services, or a related field.
Experience: Experience with new student transition programs, community engagement programs, commencement, or related activities. Skill in facilitating training and educational sessions as well as event/program management. Skill with the development and/or delivery of training programs using an online platform. Proficiency in the use of social media and the ability to create, manage, and update web presence.
