The Schaefer Center is seeking an experienced training professional to join our team and help us grow our public sector training programs.
The position will be responsible for managing existing training programs as well as developing new programs consistent with the Schaefer Center’s mission. The training manager will work with subject matter experts to develop interactive, engaging in-person and online training programs for government and nonprofit organizations consistent with best practices in adult learning. The Training Manager will be the primary point of contact coordinating with students and trainers. The training manager will support program delivery and program assessment. Where appropriate, the Training Manager will develop and teach training courses.
The Training Manager will also be responsible for working with the Schaefer Center Director to identify training needs among target markets, develop new programs, and recruit program participants.
The Training Manager will also assist others in the Center in the performance of individual and team projects and performs other special project work as assigned by the Assistant Director and the Executive Director.
This position is grant funded and contingent on continued availability of grant funds.

Key Responsibilities
Manage the design, delivery, and evaluation of existing training programs. Duties include coordinating course materials for cohort program across multiple instructors to ensure continuity and quality instruction. Coordinate program delivery including scheduling instructors, receiving and reviewing training materials, maintaining communication with training participants. Manage the Sakai site for training programs where appropriate. Lead the evaluation of training sessions, make recommendations for modification to curriculum, delivery mechanism, and structure. Ensure staff coverage for training sessions.
Design and develop new training programs for public and nonprofit employees and executives. For new training programs, develop learning objectives, determine delivery mechanism, design curriculum, identify appropriate trainers and develop evaluation plan and instruments.
Assist with participant recruitment. Serve as the primary point of contact for potential and current applicants. Manage applicant communication.
Identify potential training opportunities, participate in needs assessment, participate in the development of program proposals, and assist in preparation of proposals. Participates in meetings with potential clients.
Provide logistical support for training programs including establishing training schedules, administering application process, assigning trainers, managing trainer communication, and coordinating the use of off-site facilities.
Manage content of training program websites, brochures, and other communications. Promote the visibility of the Schaefer Center and its training programs through social media and other means.
Special Hours of Work Required: Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to deliver or staff training programs and staff Schaefer Center events.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in adult education, human resource development, organizational development, public administration or related field.
Experience: This position requires five years of experience in developing curricula, evaluating training programs, performing logistical development, and in delivering training programs with increasing supervisory responsibility.
Transportation: Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to off-site training locations as needed
Preferred Education and Experience
Education: Master’s degree.
Certification from the Association for Talent Development or other professional training certification
Experience: Experience working with a learning management system, online course delivery and other current technologies in the field of adult education or related field is also preferred. Experience managing cohort-based programs and leadership development programs.
Work experience in a government or nonprofit environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of research methodology as applied to adult education and training
Knowledge and understanding of issues faced by government and nonprofit employees, managers, and executives
Ability to write clearly and concisely
Ability to effectively use teaching aids and techniques
Ability to successfully coordinate multiple programs
Ability to work with faculty and consultant from diverse disciplines to design and deliver training programs
Excellent group presentation skills
Ability to work effectively with center colleagues, client organization and university staff
Excellent managerial, conceptual and interpersonal skills are essential
Excellent program management skills
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and database management software applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
