The University of Baltimore’s Klein Family School of Communications Design invites applications for a tenure-track (open rank) faculty position in Integrated Arts (beginning in August 2017, contingent on final budgetary approval).
Integrated Arts combines, in a unique way, courses in the traditional and applied fine arts and humanities with courses about the civic and business aspects of the arts. The program’s mission is to prepare students to help the arts, artists, and arts organizations succeed and prosper in the 21st century. The University is located in midtown Baltimore’s Station North cultural arts district; among our neighbors are Center Stage, Everyman Theatre, The Lyric, The Baltimore Symphony, Maryland Institute College of Art, Peabody Conservatory, arts and film festivals, and numerous gallery spaces. The innovative Integrated Arts program uses the neighboring arts and cultural communities as its laboratory. The program recently introduced a specialization, Performance Studies Baltimore, in collaboration with the Baltimore School for the Arts, Everyman Theater, and the Hippodrome Foundation, to prepare students for jobs in theatre.
Responsibilities include
• directing and continuing to develop the university’s B.A. program in Integrated Arts;
• advising majors in the program,
• teaching face to face and online courses in Integrated Arts, as well as other KFSCD undergraduate programs and possibly in the graduate programs.
• Working with multiple constituencies to coordinate and integrate arts and arts administration at the University of Baltimore
• Advocating for co-curricular arts events and activities
• Networking with area artists and arts organizations
• Supervising and coordinating internships
• Developing and revising curriculum
• Identifying, recruiting and supervising adjunct faculty
Candidates with a record of creative and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the rank of assistant or associate professor are especially encouraged to apply. We seek an individual with potential for excellence in teaching and service to their profession and the university; a leader in program development, recruitment and retention of students, and constituency building; and a productive scholar or creative artist.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Required: A terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) in an area related to the Integrated Arts program; expertise in at least one of the visual or performing arts; and higher education teaching experience.
• Preferred: Administrative experience especially in arts administration and/or cultural arts history; experience working with curriculum; a demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple constituencies; 3-5 years of higher education involvement; evidence of deep trans-disciplinary appreciation for the business and civic roles of the arts in local and regional culture.
