University of Baltimore—The School of Public & International Affairs (SPIA) in the College of Public Affairs invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position, a Professor of Practice, or Executive-in-Residence to begin in August 2017 (contingent on final budgetary approval). The successful candidate must be able to teach a variety of techniques for supervised and unsupervised learning using large data sets at both the master’s and doctoral levels, including machine/statistical learning; knowledge discovery; pattern recognition; predictive analysis; and, deep learning, and the ability to apply those techniques to significant public policy issues and to enhance the performance of public, health, criminal justice, and not-for-profit organizations.
The successful candidate must have the ability to teach master’s and doctoral courses in government analytics, information resource management, statistics, and analytical techniques. The ability to teach courses in a specific policy/management area such as urban analytics, political analytics, health analytics, or criminal justice analytics is a plus. The successful candidate will teach courses in-class and on-line.
Candidates for this position should hold a doctorate in public administration, public policy, political science, data analytics, decision analysis, or a discipline relevant to the nature of the position. Candidates for the tenure track Assistant Professor level must demonstrate the capacity for quality teaching and the potential for scholarly achievement. Applicants for the Professor of Practice or Executive-in-Residence position must demonstrate the ability to engage in quality instruction and must have extensive experience and expertise in professional practice. All candidates should demonstrate experience in, or potential for, service relevant to the university, academic profession, and the community. A.B.D. candidates will be considered pending successful completion of their dissertation defense by January 2018.
The College of Public Affairs houses the School of Public & International Affairs, the School of Health and Human Services, and the School of Criminal Justice. The ability to offer courses and conduct research relevant to one or more of the College’s three schools is expected. The Schaefer Center for Public Policy is an applied research unit located within the College of Public Affairs. The School of Public and International Affairs has twenty full-time faculty members with advanced degrees from leading higher education institutions in public administration/public policy such as Harvard University, Syracuse University, The Johns Hopkins University, University of Georgia, University of Albany, American University, and Columbia University. Faculty members are actively involved in applied research (grants and contracts) with federal, state, and local government, not-for-profit, and private sector organizations.

SPIA offers bachelor’s degrees in Government and Public Policy and International Studies, master’s degrees in Public Administration, Negotiation and Conflict Management, Global Affairs and Human Security, and Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship, and a doctorate in Public Administration. SPIA also offers two dual degree programs with the School of Law (JD/MPA and JD/MS CNCM). The MPA program is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA).
