The Division of Applied Behavioral Sciences (ABS) invites applications for a position that would support primarily the graduate programs in Counseling Psychology and Certificate in Professional Counseling Studies programs. The position is a full-time, renewable one-year contract appointment, 12-month instructional and administrative faculty position, with a 3-3 teaching load and service duties as field placement coordinator, beginning January 4, 2021 (contingent on final budgetary approval). Remote work will be permitted for the spring 2021 semester.
We seek a student-oriented colleague with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration across programs and an ability to teach all levels of graduate and undergraduate counseling psychology-related courses. The successful candidate will teach primarily in the counseling psychology programs; will have clinical and supervisory experience; and will be passionate about leading the programs’ efforts in creating, maintaining, and streamlining the program’s relationships with clinical practicum/internship sites. Candidates should have credentials and interests that support the division’s counseling psychology concentration in the Applied Psychology master's program, the undergraduate psychology program, as well as the MCPAC accreditation. Service to the division, as the Field Placement Coordinator, will also be required and year-round.
The position requires a doctoral degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, or other related fields, and licensure or license-eligibility as a clinician in Maryland. Training and experience as a clinician and in the clinical supervision and training of counselors and/or psychotherapists is required. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in conducting clinical supervision, with interest and skills associated with serving as the program’s field placement coordinator to practicum/internship sites, helping students obtain counseling practica and internships, and contracting. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of ethical and legal responsibilities with respect to training graduate students, what constitutes necessary training experiences at clinical sites, and protecting client rights and privileges; the ability to relate information to, and coordinate activities with, the program director and clinical training instructors. Teaching interest and/or experience in a range of counseling psychology-specific courses, particularly clinical skills-oriented courses, is essential. Interest and ability to teach core courses in the master’s program is a plus. The incumbent of the position will report directly to the division chair, be a member of the Division of ABS, and serve on the Counseling Psychology committee.
Duties: Teaching courses in the counseling psychology programs, overseeing and advising counseling psychology students in securing placements at clinical training sites, developing and maintaining contacts with counseling psychology students’ field placement sites, coordinating and attending counseling psychology-related site visits, working with site representatives to establish and maintain affiliation agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with clinical sites, and overseeing the administrative processes related to counseling psychology programs’ clinical training. For example, as a Field Placement Coordinator, incumbent will oversee the coordination of the forms process for counseling psychology student field placements, including letters of agreement, contracts with sites, requesting a seat in practicum/internship; oversee the management of internal paperwork regarding affiliation agreements and MOUs with clinical sites; oversee the management of all required documentation for counseling psychology students in program supervised clinical practica and internships; assist in managing the database of current clinical training sites; and fulfill other related duties as assigned.

The Division of Applied Behavioral Sciences, located within the Yale Gordon College of Arts and Sciences, has 11 full-time faculty members. At the graduate level, the division offers an M.S. in Applied Psychology with concentrations in Counseling Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology (IOP). In addition, a post-master's certificate in Professional Counseling Studies provides additional coursework required for licensure as a Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. The Applied Psychology program also includes a post-bachelor’s certificate in Global IOP. The undergraduate B.A. in Psychology completes the programmatic offerings.
