The Director of Strategic Outreach and Alumni Engagement is responsible for leading law communications and outreach strategies as well as alumni engagement initiatives for the University of Baltimore School of Law. Working closely with key staff, faculty, and the dean, the Director will exhibit the energy, drive, and enthusiasm to motivate individuals and organizations to connect with the School and its alumni community to donate their time, expertise and money. The Director will collaborate to develop the messaging and tools to engage law alumni, promote the school, and highlight alumni accomplishments. The Director works closely with law alumni to build a pipeline for alumni engagement that supports the law alumni groups and develops leadership. Specifically the Director helps establish the law school’s alumni engagement goals and works with the law alumni groups to plan activities and events that meet those goals. The Director works specifically with alumni, friends, faculty, staff and volunteers to conduct outreach that builds strong connections to the legal community and supports the law school’s fundraising goals. Raising private philanthropic support for both the general and specific needs of the School and the University of Baltimore, the Director employs innovative communication and social media tools to enhance the school’s presence and boost giving. Within the University, the Director works with the dean, associate dean, director of communications, Office of Institutional Advancement as well as with law school faculty, staff and students. Externally, this position interacts with law advisory boards, alumni, and leaders in the legal and wider community.

Key Responsibilities
Alumni Engagement
• Create giving pipelines and mechanisms to engage younger alumni
• Provide direction and administrative support to all law alumni boards including
* Dean’s Development Circle
* Young Lawyers Alumni Council (YLAC)
* Law School Advisory Council (LSAC)
* DC Alumni Chapter
* UB Law Alumni Association (UBLAA)—replacing YLAC
* NYC Alumni Chapter—forthcoming
• Work closely with law school boards, firms and organizations to engage and develop law alumni leaders who will work with fellow alumni and the law school.
• Maintain and steward relationships with law alumni and current students.
• Plan and execute alumni-focused events including premier annual law events such as the UBLAA alumni banquet, the UBSPI annual event and the Fannie Angelos Gala, as well as reunions, affinity receptions, student fundraising events and geographic chapter events.
• Collaborate closely and serve as the law school liaison with the centralized Institutional Advancement office, including maintaining donor contact info and analyzing donor data reports.
• Coordinate giving opportunities including the law school’s giving Tuesday, crowd-funding, naming and sponsorship possibilities.
• Identify and expand excellent giving opportunities around student, faculty and alumni initiatives and programs.
• Meet with Law Major Gift Officer regularly to provide updates on Dean’s progress with prospects and donors generally.
Strategic Outreach and Communications
• Be the primary point of contact for law alumni within the law school.
• Coordinate with the Director of Communications to manage and execute communication strategy with alumni and donors in the following ways:
* Management and oversight of law.ubalt.edu/alumni
* Social media for law alumni including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram
* Develop donor and alumni-focused content for the alumni magazine
* Assess the effectiveness of the strategies and/or campaigns to determine what channels and platforms are best to engage law alumni
• In collaboration with the Law Director of Communications, develop and design innovative and creative ways to communicate and engage the broader legal and business community to build support for key initiatives at the law school.
Required Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in communications, external relations, alumni relations and/or development.
Preferred Experience
• Master’s Degree
• Experience in higher education, nonprofits or alumni relations and development
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to effectively articulate the strengths and opportunities to support the School of Law
• Outstanding communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
• Demonstrated ability to follow through on initiatives
• Attention to detail and excellent project management skills
• Strong organizational and leadership skills
• Proficiency with databases, including donor databases such as Raiser’s Edge and university databases such as PeopleSoft
• Knowledge of social media channels and the skills to stylize them as part of a communications strategy
