The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and integrated marketing and communications plan designed to position the College strategically with its diverse constituents, to support enrollment goals, and to advance the institution. The successful candidate will lead a team of six creative professionals who specialize in content strategy and development, graphic design, digital media, publications, media relations, and web presence as well as work with the communications professional within each of the four schools. The Senior Director will serve as the University’s chief brand manager and will work collaboratively with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and members of the campus community to use the brand and data to promote consistent and compelling messaging to external constituencies through strategic and integrated advertising/marketing, editorial and design services, print publications and other collateral material, multimedia, digital/web communications, social media, and media placement. This position will work cross-departmentally to support student recruitment, engagement, fundraising, advocacy, community development and other marketing and communication efforts, and will also oversee internal communication efforts. With a goal to balance earned advertisement with paid advertisement, this position will work closely with faculty and staff throughout UB to ensure that UB’s work is known within the community. The Senior Director also oversees the University’s partnerships with any advertising/marketing/web agencies and manages the departmental budget. This position will serve on the Leadership Team of the Office of Advancement and External Relations and reports directly to the Vice President of Advancement and External Relations.

Duties include:
Identify and address communication needs throughout the University.
Serve as a representative of the office at high-level meetings requiring a communication-focused presence.
Develop and manage the strategies of marketing and public relations initiatives, including but not limited to recruitment materials, online initiatives, advertising campaigns, branding efforts, print materials, and media placement.
Collaborate in the definition of objectives and strategies and generate innovative ideas.
Serve/appoint/manage project leads as appropriate.
Manage partnerships with contracted marketing/advertising/web agencies.
Monitor media plans and organize regular audits of activity; adjust as necessary.
Compile, evaluate, and distribute various reports as appropriate.
Manage daily operations of marketing and communications.
Determine office priorities and procedures; assign projects and oversee workload of direct reports.
Deliver a high level of customer service for the campus community.
Monitor and enforce the consistency of communication efforts.
Direct content development efforts; oversee coordination and management of writing, editing and proofreading responsibilities and projects.
Work directly with vendors on printing, web, advertising, events, and other initiatives.
Manage assigned budget.
Oversee bidding, purchasing and contract needs.
Stay abreast of and monitor new technologies and make recommendations to integrate new efficiencies.
Oversee the continued development and evolution of the University’s Graphics Standards and Editorial Style Guide and visual identity; ensure style guide is current and user friendly for the campus community; coordinate style support for other offices.
Some after hour and weekend work may be required.
Required Qualifications
Education: Baccalaureate degree in a Communications, Marketing, Business, or public relations related field/discipline
Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible experience in a professional communications, marketing, advertising, or sales setting. Three years of supervisory/management experience. Two years of project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, Journalism, or public relations related field/discipline.
Experience: Served a communications or marketing specialist in a higher education setting with responsibility for enrollment management marketing; thorough knowledge of Associated Press style; portfolio of writing samples; demonstrated analytical and creative skills; familiarity with University policies and procedures; experience in a public relations setting and knowledge of public relations strategies and tactics.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, content management systems, and information architecture.
