We are hiring for either an assistant or associate director-level role. The final offer will be based on the individual's qualifications.
The Assistant or Associate Director, Judicial Clerkships and Diversity Programs works as part of the Law Career Development Office (LCDO) team to counsel and coach students and alumni in career planning, professional and talent development, job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing skills, and networking in the diverse legal market and other professional career paths. Responsibilities will include overseeing the EXPLOR (Experience in Legal Organizations) program, which places 1L students in summer placements, and involves the development and management of employer relations and recruiting. Responsibilities will also include overseeing the judicial clerkship/internship application processes and programs for opportunities in state and federal courts. Will also serve as liaison to student affinity groups and promote diversity pipeline programs.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks:
EXPLOR Program: Manage summer externship placements, primarily through the EXPLOR program: Develop and manage the LCDO’s employer relations and placement options. Maintain database of placements and work collaboratively with faculty. Assist students in identifying and securing externships. Collaborate with other UBalt School of Law Offices and Programs. Prepare applications, promotional materials and handbooks for internal and external audiences.
Student support: Respond to employer and student inquiries. Counsel students and alumni. Review resumes, diversity statements, and cover letters. Conduct mock interviews. Present trainings and programming for students, specifically relating to judicial clerkships and employer diversity initiatives. Facilitate networking opportunities for students, by identifying, organization, and/or attending, with students, bar functions, meetings, and other networking events. Review judicial clerkship and internship application materials.
Employer Relations: Establish and nurture relations with judges, judicial clerks, and employers with diversity pipeline programs. Research and post job opportunities. Assist with on campus recruitment efforts. Responsible for logistical planning and support or annual Judicial Reception. Should be available to attend bar association events as needed with the intention of solidifying relationships with judges, judicial clerks, and attorneys.
Diversity: Serve as liaison to student affinity groups. Maintain diversity resource library, research diversity pipeline programs, and promote to students. Coordinate diversity programming with employers.
Statistics and Reporting: Collect and analyze employment statistics. Compile reports. Utilize computer database for employment reporting and information gathering.
Required Education: JD degree.
Preferred Education: JD degree. Knowledge of career development and placement strategies in the legal field, related industries or in an institution of higher education.
Required Experience: Three to five years in the practice of law or related professional experience. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Must be collaborative, resourceful, communicative, and be able to work effectively as member of a team. Strong written and oral expression, and computer literacy including career services database software and online resources. Familiarity with the legal job market is preferred, as is previous experience in marketing, recruiting, and presentation and speaking skills. Experience with diversity programming and pipeline programs.
Some evening hours required for programming and support of evening students.
