Salary: $42,000 - $48,000

The Coordinator of Student Activities assumes primary responsibility for student governance and activity events/programs run out of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI). Duties include advising the Student Government Association (SGA), coordinating SGA training programs, assisting the SGA with their financial account management, recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising student staff, as well as, coordinating campus wide activity programs that support the learning outcomes of CSI. This position is also responsible for assisting with the coordination and continual review of CSI’s risk management procedures. Through the refining of our approach to student governance, university outreach, and the continuous development of events focused on contributing to student life on campus, the Coordinator will create a stronger environment to cultivate change and strengthen University goals related to student governance and events.

Key Functions/Responsibilities/Tasks

Advising and Training of the Student Government Association (SGA)
•Serve as the primary advisor to the SGA and provide support and guidance to SGA representatives
•Assist SGA with building strong relationships with students, faculty and staff and act as a liaison between university offices and other student organizations
•Provide recommendations to the SGA regarding SGA legislation and campus related issues
•Provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for students, faculty and staff to discuss successes and concerns related to SGA
•Attend and provide support to SGA meetings, events and programs
•Develop and implement a strategic plan
•Facilitate trainings and workshops about relevant policies and procedures including: SGA operations, student organization expectations, and leadership

Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Events and Programs
•Serve as the CSI lead for all Welcome Week events and programs, including planning, outreach, event management, and assessment
•Participate in annual planning to enhance existing programs and develop new initiatives that align with the mission, vision, and values of CSI, student affairs and the university
•Work with the Executive Director of Student Development to further develop programs, services and practices that support and improve campus activity programs within the university
•Assist with the development and planning of annual orientation for registered student organizations
•Maintain diversity in program development efforts
•Attend and provide support to CSI and student organization events and programs
•Ensure events and programs are in compliance with student organization requirements, university policies, and state and federal laws

Student Organization Policy Development and Implementation
•Aid in the development and implementation of student organization policies and procedures that promote experiential learning, inclusion, and diversity
•Responsible for the development and refining of the CSI risk management plans and policies
•Perform timely reviews of policies to ensure compliance with all university, state and federal requirements
•Provide recommendations to university officials regarding current student policy and processes
•Address concerns and policy violations in compliance with established university procedures

Leadership and Administration of CSI
•Assist in the day-to-day operations of CSI, including opening and closing procedures, student organization registration, development and distribution of student organization publications, and policy enforcement
•Assist in supervising select evening and weekend programs, including facility operations, informal activities, off campus events, and assigned programs
•Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of student staff
•Assist in maintaining and implementing technologies associated with student organizations and CSI

University Outreach
•Increase students’ understanding of their role within their communities by providing opportunities that connect classroom knowledge with real-world experiences
•Develop evaluation tools to assess the student perspective on University outreach, including the effectiveness of the SGA, campus presence, and its representation of the entire student population

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in related field
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in student activities, student government, student life, or related field
General knowledge of Student Government and campus activities
Hiring and training student staff, advising student groups
Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Ability to work a flexible daily routine to include evening and weekend hours

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degree in related field
Experience:  Experience with Student Government and campus activities in a university setting
Skills in facilitating trainings and educational sessions, as well as, event/program management
Financial management experience
Proficiency in the use of social media and the ability to create, manage and update web presence

General knowledge of Student Government and campus activities; hiring and training student staff, advising student groups; excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
