The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for ensuring quality financial aid counseling and service and timely delivery of student financial aid to a diverse constituency.

Help coordinate and implement financial literacy programs for UB students, with strong emphasis on retention and reaching degree completion with minimal loan debt

Ability to deal with students who have high financial need and difficult life circumstances.  Provide quality one-on-one counseling and financial advice for all students.  Aim to make a UB education affordable for all students.

This position directly supports the Assistant Directors and the Associate Director, and is always the first staff member to meet with students and families.  By providing knowledgeable financial aid information and counseling, the Assistants and Associate Directors can focus on their areas of specialty to advance the Office of Financial Aid, and can further provide the supervisory level of intervention and support to this position as needed.

Counsel and advise all students regarding financial aid services.  Predominantly in-person contact (other staff is responsible for telephone and email contact).  Exemplary customer service skill.   Comprehensive knowledge of all federal, state and institutional financial aid programs.  Ability to deal with difficult people and situations and to remain calm and professional.  Help coordinate and implement financial literacy programs for UB students, with strong emphasis on retention and reaching degree completion with minimal loan debt.

Work as a team with other Financial Aid office staff to review such  things as:  Satisfactory academic progress, verification, enrollment, budget adjustments, professional judgment – always under guidance of Assistant or Associate Director.

Represent the Office of Financial Aid at admissions or other campus events as required, to discuss and explain the role of financial aid at UB.  May also participate in off-campus events with an Assistant or Associate Director.

Required Education:  Bachelor’s Degree
Required Experience:  2-3 years of experience in higher education financial aid programs; 2 years of direct experience dealing with students and families.

Preferred Experience:   Demonstrated knowledge and skill using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions – financial aid module

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word programs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
Calm and professional demeanor at all times with excellent student/customer service skills

Some evenings and weekends are required.

•Use the dropdown to enter your highest education level.  Entering this information is required.
•Then, only college and university information is required. Click the plus sign to the left of the “Postsecondary Education” link to enter that information.
•For country, enter USA or click the hourglass to select another country.
•You can use the first day of the month wherever dates are required.
•Click the plus sign to the left of "References" to enter two professional references.
•After you enter your education information and references, click “Save,” then click “Next.”

3. How did you find out about us/how did you find out about the job?

•After you enter this information, click “Save,” then click “Next.”

4. Online Questionnaire/Application Questionnaire: Answer the questions requiring a yes or no response. After you answer them, click “Submit.” This leads you to the Submit Online Application page.


To apply for your selected job: When you reach the “Submit Online Application” page shown below, you must click “I agree to these terms” and then click the “Submit” button at the end of the screen. After you click “Submit,” then you will see this information at the top of your screen:
