Why are we making these changes?
In March 2021, Subgroup 6.2 within Recommendation 6: Marketing and Branding of the Board of Regents (BOR) task force report recommended a change to The University of Baltimore’s Editorial Style Guide. The two significant changes to the Editorial Style Guide incorporated a direct recommendation from the BOR to capitalize the word “The” on first reference in our written materials and emphasize "The" in our spoken communications. The second recommendation was to stand out in the crowded space of universities’ informal names and acronyms. To meet that recommendation, the committee began to maximize an already proven informal name: UBalt. Visit our University Name webpage to read more about our storied name and brand in the Baltimore region.
Why can’t I use “UB” anymore?
We are distinguishing The University of Baltimore in the Baltimore region and eliminating confusion with other University System of Maryland institutions as well as other schools that use similar acronyms.
Will a new logo be available?
No. This is not an official University name change.
When will “UB” be fully changed to “UBalt”?
Using UBalt officially began in March 2021. We have been using UBalt in many places already such as our main website URL, social media hashtags and email addresses.
