Virtual UBalt delivers a standard UBalt computer experience to you through the Internet. While it may seem as if you're working at a computer on campus, there are some things to keep in mind:
-
Saving files
Save files to your local computer or a network location (e.g., R and M drives). Do not save files to the virtual desktop or virtual C drive because they will be deleted when you log off. -
E-mail
You can use Microsoft Outlook to access your UBalt e-mail account instead of going through the MyUB Portal. -
Accessing Files
Files you store on network drives (M, R, S, H drives) are easily accessible through the My Computer icon. You do not need to go through the MyUB Portal. -
Web browsing
We advise you avoid or limit web browsing using this connection and instead switch back to your local computer, when needing to quickly browse the Web. -
Applications of Virtual UBalt
The virtual desktop is a standard UBalt office image. Any special software installed on your office computer will not be available on Virtual UBalt. -
The Look and Feel
The look and feel of Windows may seem basic. This allows the virtual computer to optimize its resources for applications. -
Logging Off
Make sure to log off the Virtual UBalt computer when you're finished, then close the virtual connection.
