The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act was signed into law on Oct. 28, 2000. The law mandates that institutions of higher education alert faculty, staff and students where they can obtain information concerning registered sex offenders that may frequent a campus. To access this information go to State of Maryland Sex Offender Search.
You can perform a general search or go to the right side of the page and click on "MD Institutions of Higher Education." Also, through the Maryland Sex Offender Alert Line, you can receive a phone call when a convicted sex offender moves into your zip code. Call the Maryland Sex Offender Alert Line at 1.866.559.8017 and enter your phone number and zip code. When the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services receives notice that a registered sex offender is moving into that area, you will receive a notification call. You will then be directed to the Maryland Sex Offender Registry for more information.
