To the University of Baltimore Community:
As the partial shutdown of the federal government continues, we are committed to keeping you informed of any changes that may impact you, your classes, your educational needs, and so on.
While UBalt has an assortment of research grants and contracts that rely at least in part on federal resources, as of now those agreements have not been affected. Should the budget impasse continue, however, we could expect that some agreements may be suspended.
We are sensitive to the needs of our community during this unprecedented event. Should you have questions or concerns about the shutdown—especially as it affects your experience at the University of Baltimore—please contact the UBalt Office of Government and Public Affairs for assistance at 410.837.4533.
Sincerely,
Kurt L. Schmoke
President
Questions and Concerns About Financial Aid
UBalt students also should be aware of the following, which applies to those who qualify for financial aid, military tuition assistance, or veterans education benefits. The Office of Financial Aid is dedicated to keeping you informed, and what follows are answers to our most frequently asked questions regarding the government shutdown:
- During the present shutdown, federal financial aid students who are due disbursements would still receive them. You are able to file and make corrections to the FAFSA. Visit this site for more information related to the shutdown.
- Military students who have confirmed approval of tuition assistance for Spring 2019 should proceed with courses as scheduled. If this semester's tuition assistance is not disbursed following a shutdown, UBalt will make accommodations on your billing statement for the approved amount. Please keep in mind that a government shutdown may delay the processing of any new tuition assistance.
- UBalt will continue to process veterans' education benefits. Veteran students should proceed with submitting any appropriate paperwork. We recommend this processing be done promptly, keeping in mind this shutdown may result in processing and payment delays by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
- If a federal agency or organization is paying your Spring 2019 bill, submit the agency or organization's third-party billing authorization form to the Office of the Bursar. The form may be submitted in person, via email (ubbursar@ubalt.edu) or fax (410.837.6532). The Office of the Bursar requires this authorization form to bill your employer on your behalf.
Other questions or concerns? Contact the University of Baltimore Office of Financial Aid at 410.837.4763 or financialaid@ubalt.edu.
Deferred Payment Plan
The University of Baltimore is flexible in serving our students directly impacted by the federal government shutdown. If you are concerned with the burden of covering your spring semester bills, we are here to help. A delayed payment plan is available for students directly impacted by the shutdown. By submitting appropriate documentation to the Office of the Bursar, we can enroll you in a three-month payment plan, with the first payment due on March 20, 2019 and subsequent payments due on April 20 and May 20, 2019. Additionally, as long as the shutdown is in effect, the Office of the Bursar will adjust late fees for students enrolled in this payment plan by March 20. For more information about this and other payment plans, visit www.ubalt.edu/paymentplan or contact the Office of the Bursar at ubbursar@ubalt.edu or 410.837.5001.
