Climate Neutrality—And Beyond
When you think "green," the first thing that may come to mind is the effort to achieve climate neutrality. The University of Baltimore's Sustainability Task Force is working to fulfill the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, signed by UB President Robert L. Bogomolny on Dec. 11, 2007. This pledge, signed by representatives from more than 600 colleges and universities, aims to reduce our impact on the environment by:
- neutralizing the University’s greenhouse gas emissions
- addressing the problem of climate change through research and education.
UB is following through on this commitment in a variety of ways, including
- Adopting a Climate Action Plan in December 2009
- streetscaping and transportation initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions
- continued integration of environmental concerns in its curriculum, notably in the UB School of Law’s courses in Environmental Law and International Environmental Law and the Merrick School of Business’s new Sustainability Management specialization.
- creating a new undergraduate major in Human Ecology and Sustainability.
